CAPE NEWS.
(Per John Elder.) Capetown, February 6. Sir Garnet Wolsely is at Maritzburg arranging the constitution for Natal. Pretorius bas been liberated on bail. The Legislative Council of Natal is discussing the question of the Home Government granting responsible Government.
A correspondent writing in the Caps Times says : •-" The Eev. George Smith, < who distinguished himself at Rorke's Drift, though not in his clerical capacity, bas been recommended to a chaplaincy in the army by Sir Garnet Wolseley, and is about to leave the colony of Natal in consequence. The public generally are glad that his services met with recognition, as he acted nobly at Rorke's Drift; but , when we have to write C.M.G. after Chief John Dunn's name, we feel rather mixed up somehow. I have heard a good deal about the matter, but nobody likes ■ it." '
