NEW WHAU.

This mine was visited this morning. The contractors, after cutting out a chamber at the bottom of the old winze on the Alburnia boundary, have deepened the winze two-or three feet, and a shot fired near the hanging-wall produced 1501bs of good picked stone, leaving a fine show in the face. The stone is the exact counterpart of the Alburnia quartz, being of a first-class character for bearing gold, and well mineralised. The present bottom of the winze is only a few feet below the face of the Alburnia 70-feet level, west drive, which has been driven home to the boundary. The manager of the Alburnia roughly plumbed the winze from the "boundary marks in the chamber and found the eastern side of the winze is right on the boundary. Only the hanging of the reef has been touched, so that the size of the lode cannot be stated with exactitude. From appearance I should judge that it is about the same size as the Alburnia lode was in the face—viz,, about six feet.
