THE DRAINAGE SYSTEM.
To day Mr Wilson, underriewer to tie 1 Mining Inspector, measured the water in the principal shafts affected by the stoppage of the Bin Pomp. In the pump shaft the distance from the sill to the top of the water was 192|ft. A fortnight ago the distance was 210 ft showing that during that period ■ the water has increased just 18yft In the Prince Imperial the distance was 195|. in the Crown Pririce3sl99f, and in the Queen of Beamy 196^. Daring the , fortnight the increase in these three shaft! has been nearly the.same, showing; that there is a close connection between the Tookey flat and the Waio Earaka drainage systems. The question naturally arises :— are the mines on the Waio-Karaka dependant on the Big Pump. That they are to a certain extent has been demonstrated beyond all doubt, bat there is no proof of the assertion that unless the Big Pump is at work, the Waio-Karaka pntnp will be unable to keep its mines dear.
