WAITARA.
Last night. The West Coast Commission.
The commission commenced sitting here this morning. Between 60 and 70 natives were present, amongst whom were several of influence, including a brother of the celebrated William King. Mrs Simeon, an intelligent looking half caste, has also attended to give evidence. It appears that a good many natives in this district are staunch believers in Te Whiti, and contribute very liberally towards his support, and in providing for bis monthly meeting at Parihaka. Some natives present are anxious to have their titles to land individualised, but others also interested in the same land, and who preside at Parihaka, object to this. The commission will probably take all the evidence to be given here to-morrow afternoon, but will probably hold one or two sittings.
