Rbfobt or Db. P. Moslbb, Pbofessob at SHI UVITSBSITT OF €rBEIJ3WALD. •Epitome of an article of the' "Berliner klinischen Woobenscbrift " No. 21, 1879, a medical periodical, published at Berlin with reference to inhalations of the Eitbact Eucalypti c Foliib (Sander & Sons' Extract Eucalyptus) in eases of diptheria, by Dr. F. Mesler, professor at the University of Greifswald, Germany, viz., . .. " Having experienced the advantages , derived from inhalations of the Extbact Eucalypti c Folii in cases of ecbinoooccen of the lungs witb bronchial affections, I made up my mind to try the same remedy in eases of Dipthbbia. .Dr Salenz, a pupil of mine, has since, in liis desertations, reported the particulars of the cases treated, and I may be allowed briefly to refer to'one of the esses enumerated therein. Ida X., of PasewaJk, twenty years of age, had on the 19th February, 1879, a fit of chilling fever with violent pains in the throat. She called upon a medical practitioner, who, recognizing «t once the case to be one ail dipbtheritis, made her enter my klinik, where I had to separate her from the other patients. Tbe patient, well developed for her age, was complaining of pains in the throat, which grew worse when she endeavored to swallow, ' speak, or move the. cebk. - The submaxillar ■ and submental glands were much swollen, and the fever was of a remitting nature. The condition of the patient was on the 22nd of February:—Warmth =30.4 C., pulse ~96, respiration = 2Q. Prescription; Ex- - tract cue. c. foliis to be inhaled for twenty minutes every hour. The following day the . patient threw out small particles of exeudat. The local appearances in the.pharynx grew worse, and the exeudats were more extended over the mucous membrane. That increase of symptoms caused me to augment the dose to one teaspoonful of extract euo» used for inhalation ; also the inhalations were continued during the night. On the 27th patient . got better and the fever • had subsided. On -examining the pbarynx it was easily to be noticed that the diptheritis gave way, and on the lith of March the patient was restoredand discharged! The report in question says that tbe Eucalypti Extract in all cases of diptheritis proved successful; it also sets forth ca«es of laryngitis and bronchitis chronica, pneumonia, croupoia dextra, acute pharyngitis, combined . with laryngitis, treated successfully with Eucalypti Extract. • (Those dieeaees constitute nearly all the affections of the throat and respiratory organs, moetly caused by neglected colds.) The above reported .cure of diptheria, a disease which is always attended by fever, proves the efficacy of our Extraot Eucalyptus in all cases of fever, and as it at the same time disinfects all wounds, and checks inflammation, it. will be a positive cure of nearly all diseases, chiefly Fevers, Rheumatism, Colds, Wounds of till kinds, Sprains, Bruitcs, Etc. . •:■, ' FRANCE.
