It is pretty well known that the Minister for Public Works, Mr Oiliver, will npj^ visit Auckland previous to thextneeting of Parliament, avd^tSe^ pros* pectj when on the^gy^fiu^, of our being able^Jnj^fte^Emi to order the construc4iefToF another section of our railway is therefore dispelled. However, that is no -reason why , the local authorities should not urge upon the Government, 'through Mr Whitaker, the demands of the people of the district. It will be remembered that the Attorney-General stated that such matters as our railway would be considered by Mr Oliver during bis visit to Auckland* and of course the reason was' a fair one under the circumstances, but inasmuch as Mr Oliver will not visit Auckland before the session, Mr Whitaker, as the residenjt iMinister, should make known to: Hiaoplv leagues the wishes of the inhabitants of the Thames, and the necessity there isfor at once proceeding with" certain public works. We should suggest to the local authorities to again interview Mr Whitaker, and if possible get a definite answer from him upon the intentions of the Government re. the railway and" other matters of importance, to this district.
