GISBORNE.

Last night. An Independent Representative. Mr Allan McDonald, M.H.R., addressed the electors at Gisborne last night, and notwithstanding the uapropitious wt-ather, the building was crowded.

Mr McDonald met with a most enthusiastic reception. After dwelling at length upon matters relating to the electorate, he was severely questioned in regard to the action be had taken during the session. He spoke in favorable terms of the present Government, but in reply to n^estionj^t^^^i^e s^c^ tV -^B^reyparty while it lasted. He had also supported Mr Macandrew, and while having the utmost confidence in Major Atkinson and one or two other members of the Ministry, of whom he spoke in the highest terms, he positively declined to declare himself an adherent of either one party or the other. He assured the meeting he had no intention of becoming a mere delegate; he had done the best he could for the district since he bad represented it, and would continue to do so as long as he enjoyed that honor. He declined to be a blind follower of any party, and was determined to act upon most independent grounds. :

A vote of confidence in McDonald was carried unopposed.
