TASMANIA.
The Assembly approved of the Treasurer's taxation proposal. £62,000 of fresh taxation has been sanctioned, including £25,000 from 9d in the £ on the assesse?4>alne of landed property, £16,000 excise oif beer, £16,0G0 increased Custom Duties, £50C0 from 9d in the £ dividends from companies, etc. The Assembly authorised the floating of an experimental loan in London in the middle of the year, partly to redeem the 6 per cent debentures and partly for public works. Amount of loan, £450,000. The Council is likely to agree to the proposed taxation. The session will probably close in a few days. The Assembly refuses to allow Tasmania to be represented at the Melbourne Exhibition, and dissatisfaction is publicly _ expressed.
