THE Evening Star. PUBLISHED DAILY AT FOUR O'CLOCK P.M. Resurrexi. FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 1880.

The final arrangements between the Borough and County upon the matter of the water supply will soon be completed. The Hon. Mr Whitaker, has written to the local, bodies stating that if an agreement is drawn Up and signed by each Corporation, he will without the act of the Assembly pay the amount to the County agreed upon in the memorandum drawn up through, the intercession of Mr Sheshan, between the County and the Borough, over this vexed question.. It is to be hoped that the municipal authorities will at once take steps to extend the supply ; and that the County Council, out of the £2500 which they receive for granting water to the Borough from the big race, and the £1000 for their interest in the Domestic, Supply, will see their .way to advance a sum of money to (Bjhable the supply: to be placed within the reach of all the inhabitants—not alone in the Borough but the adjoining ridings of the County. The money, £2500, they receive from the Government might with justice be expended in such a direction, for that amount is paid to them for giving to the inhabitants of the Borough water from the large race in time of need, and in justice this right belonged to them, and whether they lived within ; .the limits of the Borough or County should be a matter of little importance. . The. County Council is, we believe, not now much in debt- and could with a good grace, aid the Borough in extending the water supply within the limits of the municipality and the adjoining localities. We should like to see this arrangement carried out, for the object of each corposhould be to do such works as would do the greatest good to the greatest number.
