CAUTION TO PURCHASERS.
The value of this veil known Family Medi. cine has been largely tested in all parts of the world, and by all grades of society, for up wards of FIFTY YEARS. Its well-earned extensive sale has induced SPURIOUS IMITATIONS, some of which in OUTWARD APPEARANCE so closely resemble the original as to have deceived many purchasers. The proprietor therefore feels it due to the public to give a special caution against the use of SUCH IMITATIONS. Purchasers are therefore requested carefully to observe the four following distinctive characteristics, without which none are genuine;—, Ist—ln every case the "words JOHN STEEDMAN, CHEMIST, WALWORTH SBRREY, are engraved on the Government Stamp affixed to each packet. 2nd—Each Single Powder has. directions for the dose, and the words, Johit Stesdican, Chemist, Walworth, Surrey, printed thereon., Brd—The name Steedman is always spelt with.two SB's. . 4th—The manufacture is carried on solely i at Walworth, Surrey. On all. diseases arising from early indiscre* tions. On Gout. On Rheumatism.. In these colonies those excesses which we have indulged in " hot youth " tell upon us with fearful interest. , Our regrets are useless, our repinings futile. The sole idea should be. the chances we possess of remedying the ills we already have; for combatting the effects likely to result. Hide it as he may, put on as good an exterior as he can, still is the victim conscious that he is a living lie, and that sooner or later his vices will discover him to the world. Our Faith, our obligations to society at large, the welfare of our future, offspring, and the duty, we owe to ourselves forbids procrastination, and points out to us, not to wait till the ravages break out in our constitutions. Before negotiating with a merchant, before engaging with a confidential clerk; before employing a barrister, a careful man makes enquiries as their standing, their length of occupancy or residence; and, in the case of a legal adviser, both as to his legal qualifications and aB to his capabilities of transacting the individual business he consults Kirn upon. Strange to say, however, in the selection of a ■ medical man, the sufferer frequently omits ! theße necessary precautions and without re- ; gard to the fitness, qualification, experience I and ability for the particular ailment requiring treatment, he conaults the nearest man, whose experience and practice, perhaps, lies ! in quite an opposite direction; ; ! Is it astonishing that so many are driven i mad, are ruined, in health, and are bankrupt ,in spirits, hope and money ? Have I not for years pointed out to them that I, Dr L. L. Smith, am the only legally qualified medical man advertising in the Colonies ? Have I not also prosecuted, at my own expense, these vevy quacks, and expoeed the various nostrums they are celling,—such as Phdephodyne Essence of Life, &o.~and had them analysed and found them to consist of " Burnt Sugar and flavoring natter," apd the certificates I have pboveb to be all forgeries. It is for this reason that I step out of the ethics of the profession and advertise, to give those who require the services of my branch an opporj tunity of knowing they oan consult a legally. , qualified mail, and one, moreover, wha has made this his especial study. 1 Pr L.
