Last night.
The Royal Commission, appointed to enquire into the land claims of the Middle Island held a formal sitting at the City Hotel to-day, when Mr Izard, who appeared to be a half claimant, applied for adjournment till Wednesday to enable him to get witnesses which was granted. The Commission reassemble at Port Chalmers on Wednesday at 3 p.m., when Judge Syraonds, who surveyed the Otago block, w?l! be 1 examined. The Mountain Water Race Company at Tinkei have had another washing of 370 ounces, bringing up the season's yield to 1950 ounces. The seven shareholders in the claim have drawn. £800 each in diridi'iids during the half-year ended January 31.
His Excellency and Lady Robinson arrived at Dunedin by special train at 4.45 o'clock this afternoon. At Palmerston they were joined by the Commissioner for the Middle Island Railways under whose charge the special was. About 350 hands employed on sections of the Otago reilway wiU be knocked off work immediately by order of the Government. ,
The high wind on Sunday did damage to the crops in Tokomairiro, Clutha, and Tuapeka districts. The ceremony of laying the corner sioue of the new Primitive Methodist church took place to-day. - The high winds which have done so much damagu to the crops in.other parts of the colony were not felt much here, and little if any injury has been iuflicted.
