HARBOR BOARD.

A deputation of the Harbor Board, headed by the Chairman, Mr J. Brown, waited on Mr Whitaker immediately afterwards.

Mr Brown informed Mr Whitaker that the object of the visit was the impecunious state of the Board. He gave a history of the causes which led to its present unsatisfactory financial position, and asked if the Government would advance them £6000 either as a gift or out of the trust funds— the money to be paid after the floating of the loan. Mr Whitaker said a sum of money could only be given to them by vote of the House. With regard to the advance from the Trust Funds, he suggested that application should be made to the Trust Fund Commissioners, which would receive due attention. The deputation then withdrew.
