Water Supply Committee.

The usual monthly «meeting of the committee was held at tbe Council Chambers last evening. Present—the Mayor (in the Chair), Messrs'Speight, Bawden, Osborne, and Wilkinson.

: COUNTY MEMBEBS. • The secretary reported that.no communication had been received from ihe County Council, concerning the representation on the Committee. The. Parawai Board had appointed Mr Vernon, but the notice was .informal. It was resolved to inform the Parawai Board of that*fact. A-LEAK. Mr Speight stated that one of the mains in Sealey street had burst, and was leaking badly. The attention of the Turncock was drawn to this matter. EEDTTCTIONS.

Mr Pyne, butcher, wrote asking a reduction of the charge for water to drive his sausage machine, as lie considered the present rate too high. The Committee found themselves unable to make the reduction. Mr Vickery, who had been using the Committee's water to blow a blacksmith's bellows, wrote asking for a reduction of the rate as the pressure was quite insufficient for the purpose. The Committee decided to charge Mr Vickery at the same rate as a private | house. . , ■:...-; WATEU FOR BLOCK 27. A communication having been received from the County Council offering the Committee permission to connect with big raco for the purpose of supplying the residents of Block 27 with water. It was decided to go on with the work when sufficient inducement is guaranteed. The Turncock's estimate of the cost was £300, and the revenue would be £20 per annum. APPLICATION. The Committee granted Mr Cullen's application for water for domestic purposes. ' COMMITTEES. "The following committees were appointed :—Finance : Messrs Ehrenfried, Wilkinson, and Osborne. Works : Messrs Ehrenfried, Bawden, and Speight. WATER FOB QUEEN STEEET. Mr McGowan waited on the Committee re the extending of the uupply to Queen street north. He offered to!advance the money for laying down the pipes. [Referred to Works Committee with power to act. WAIOTAHI, Mr McGowan represented to the Committee the great want of water in lower Waiotahi. On the motion of Mr Wilkinson it was decided that the Turncock should report on the cost of supplying lower Waiotahi and report at next' meeting. • This concluded the business.
