Thames Borough Council.
The usual fortnightly meeting of the Council was held at the Council Chambers last evening. There wore present His Worship the Mayor, Crs Speight, Wii« kinson, McGowan, Osborne, and Marshall. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. MARY BTBKBT SOUTH. j L letter was read from several Mary street burgesses, asking that the footpath on the south side of Mary street be asphalted. The Town sClerk said there was a difficulty with respect to this footpath, as certain of the property could not be come upon. The putting of the law into opera* tion would cost more than the rate would amount to. . Cr Wilkinson moved and Cr Marshall seconded that this work be done. Cr Wilkinson moved that.the asphalt* ing question be taken into consideration by a meeting in Committee for special business on Monday next. Carried. CEMETEBY COMMITTEE^ • " The Cemetery Committee wrote inviting the Council to a conference on Wednesday next to define the powers of the Committee and other matters. It was" resolved to comply with the request. CHARITABLE AID MATTEBS. A letter was read from the Colonial Secretary sending copies of several' bills re charitable aid, and asking suggestions from the Council. Beferred to Charitable Aid Committee. REPOBT OF WOBKB COMMITTEE. The report of Works Committee was read and adopted. It was as. follows :— " Your committee have the honor to report up to the present date they hire been unable to make any arrangements with Mr Owen Griffiths relative to the removal of night soil. Mr Griffiths has repeatedly been asked to furnish a drawing of the cart he requires, and which he proposes shall be paid for at the expiration of his contract by the Council out of the Borough funds. Your committee ask that authority be given them to call for and accept a tender for the performance of this work. The committee have visited many of the dangerous buildings within the Middle and North Wards of the Borough, and find that nearly all are so dilapidated as, to be scarcely worth repairing. Notices to secure or take down same within 21 days have been seat to the various owners. ' THE WJTTEB StTPPtY. The Town Clerk read over a draft deed assigning the domestic supply to the Borough. This deed had been prepared at the instance of the committee appointed by the Council. On the motion of Gr Wilkinson the Council approved of the action of the Committee. PAY-SHEET. The pay-sheet was passed. STATIONERY. Mr McLiver's tender for stationery was accepted, being the only one in. TENDERS. No tenders having been received for supplies, i.t was resolved to extend the time till Monday next. COMMITTEE CHANGES. —Cr_W_ilkin&onjsas_fileoted a memb_er. oL. the following Committees :-rFiF(fßrigade, Water Supply- and Charitable Aid. Cr Speight, complaining of his inability to attend the Fire Brigade Committee, waa placed on the Water Supply Committee instead. THE BAILWAY. Cr Wilkinson gave notice of motion:-* " To ask what steps have been taken by his Worship the Mayor or his prede*' cessor to settle railway, compensation claims within the Bprdugh of Thames, in : compliance with instructions obtained by the late Mayor from the Hon. the Minister for Publio Worki P"
