Athletic Sports at Tararu.
Besides the Sunday School children there were about 1000 people at .Tararu during the day to witness the athletic sports. Ail of' the running events took place on the flat, the jumping and vaulting /being in the gardens. The first event
was the 300 Yard a' Haridicop Foot Eace.—Entrance, 3s. Prize, £'d. Torrens (scratch) ... ... 1 Powder (12yds) 2 J. Thomas (Byds) 3 Pike (scratch) ... ... 0 Lukie (12yds) 0 -, This was a very good race, but Torrens v evidently had it all his own way. Lukie who was running gamely collided with another runner and fell, which put him out of the race. > ■' Running High Jump.—Entrance, Is. Priz?, 10s. Moorcraft ... 1 Powder ... ... ... 0 Gordon ... ... ... 0 This was a gift to Moorcraft, who easily cleared 4ft lin, at which the others . stuck.
