Trade Hatters

Commercial business during the past week has been up to the average. The opening price of wheat was about 5s for prime, delivered in good condition. It is too early to speak of the yield per acre and the quality, but it will not come out so well as last year's crop in either respect. Brandy has moved a little, especially second-class feands, and one or two large sales are reported. Other spirits have also been moved off. Ales and beers are in good request, and late shipments of Dogs-head and Bull-dog brands met with brisk demands at 6s 9d and 9s 6d, while a shipment of Younger's were sold for 8a 9d 1.8. Several consignments of galvanised iron are being held for more money, but a parcel has been quitted at or about £26 to £26 10s. Oils of all descriptions are inquired for. Matches are at last moving, and a line of Bell and Black's 250's were quitted at 20s. Maize is a shade firmer, stocks being cleared from first hands, and 3s 6d to 3s 9d for clean grain. Gats dull of sale at 2s 3d to 2s 6d. Bran, little demand, and is offered afc £4 10s per ton. Potatoes are being poured into the market, and the consequence is that the price depends on seller ; if they are to be sold they may realise £3 10s.
