* Yesterday. Captain Craig, ot the Christchurcli Artillery has posted a challenge to all the batteries in New Zealand, who competed in the recent contest to fire a match during the first week in February. Mr Yon Asch, the deaf and dumb instructor recently appointed, arrived at Lyttelton yesterday, and inspected one or two buildings, which, were thought suitable for the temporary accommodation of the new institution classes. Lcure's sawmill at Oxford, with machinery and 80,000 feet ot timber, was burnt this morning. The fire is supposed to have been caused by a spark getting into the sawdust and smouldering during tho night. The loss is £850 insured for £400 in the South British. The council of the Acclimatization Society has decided to lengthen the < oming Coursing Season by one month the the limit will be April-lst to July 31st. Subscriptions are coming in for Irish Ivelief Fund, and an arrangement has been made with the Opera Co., to give a benefit in the Theatre Royal on Monday week, and a Monster fete is spoken of after the manner of the Xaitangata .Relief Fund.
