Fjkoji the memo, sent by the deputation re the railway it tvill be seen that oulv a

section as far as Puriri was asked for. What will our Paeroa friends say to tins proceeding ? It was understood that work was to be commenced on the Hue at or near Paeroa, and now the deputation supposed to represent the whole district confines itself to asking for a small section of 8 miles, which, from the nature of the country, will cost but lit tie to construct. Another matter : the work upon the proposed section is understood to be given to the natives, so that thero is but little advantage to be gained from the point, of view of providing employment for the contractors and the men engaged upon the present works.' We cannot see why the deputation confined themselves to asking for such a small favor. People of the Thames are just as interested in being connected by" rail with Paeroa and the upper country as with Eopu and Puriri. Altogether we cannot see that the deputation has done much, yet the fact of urging our claims mny probably assist the end in ?iew. Mr Whitaker's promise that the Water Supply Bill would be prepared ia very old news, for during last session he promised the late Mayor to have such a bill prepared and introduced into the Parliament then sitting. Throwing open the Otunui block for agricultural purposes would be a step in the right direction, and if the Minister of Lands can be induced by the representation of the deputation to do so, one good result will follow the visit of our local magnates to Auckland.
