The Native Meeting.
Communications received I'roih Msjor Mair and others states that no business has yet been done at the Waotu meeting, which is expected to terminate on Saturday next, and is not expected to adjourn for the races, though many natives talk of riding to Cambridge on the race day.
A meeting of the Creditors of Thos. Hood, of the Masonic Hotel, showed the liabilities to be £1210 5s 9d, assets £90.
A fire broke out in the house ot Jas. Baker, residing at Kihikihi, and resulted in the total destruction of everything. Mr Baker, an old man 70 years of age, fell asleep with a candle burning by the side of the bed. The curtains caught fire and the house was soon in a blaze. It was first discovered by Mrs Baker, who, after great difficulty, rescued the old man from a horrible death. .
John McKenzie has been appointed Wharfinger and 11 arbor Pilot.
The open Scholarships under the Board of Education have been won by Oliver JN icholson, Arthur McCormick and Arthur Harrington, all of the Auckland College and Grammar School.
