Yesterday.
At the City Court, Charles Bilson, with five aliases, received 12 months' for stealing a coat. Seven previous convictions of larceny since 1876, were proved against the prisoner.
William Watson got twelve months on two charges of stealing a horse and saddlery.
Tbe quarterly attendance returns which have been compiled by the Otago Education Board show that the number of children on the roll at the beginning of the quarter was 16,679, and at the end of the quarter 17,784 consisting of 8794 boys, and 8590 girls. The average attendance for the quarter was 7732 boys, 6995 girls, making a total of 14,627, which is an increase of 1236 over the previous quarter, and the highest average which has ever been attained in Qtago. Bode, hairdresser and tobacconist, was drowned in the harbour yesterday by the upsetting of a dingy. Acceptances for the Dunedin .
