MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS.
Messrs Davitt, Daly, and Killen, who were reoently arrested by the Government on a charge of using seditious language at a land meeting at Garton, Ireland, have been committed for trial by the Magistrates of Sligo, who accepted bail for their appearance at the trial. Numerous and largely attended meetings throughout the country, protesting against the action of the Government in arrest* ing them, have been held —a large gathering estimated at 50,000, being held in Hyde Park" on Sunday last. Mr Parnell, M.P., addressed a meeting at Birkenhead on Monday, when a resolution was passed declaring that their arrest was an arbitrary and immoral act, contrary to the spirit of the English Constitution, and that the Government that squanders the blood and treasure of. the people in unjust wars abroad, while there were misery ami famine at home, stood condemned in the eyes of all thoughtful men. f The Order of the Thistle was conferred by the Queen on Saturday upon the Earl of Seafield and the Duke of Montrose. isThe Queen, accompanied by - the Princess Beatrice, arrived at Windsor Castle from Balmoral on the 26th ult. Before her departure from Balmoral, her Majesty attended the funeral of the late John Grant, who was for twenty.'five years head, gamekeeper at Balmoral; and when the coffin was lowered into the grave half-a-dozen large wreaths of immortelles were laid on it by the Queen and other members ot the Royal Family. Her Majesty has been slightly indisposed since her return from Balmoral, but is now better. The Earl of Beaeonsfield had an audience of the Queen immediately after her return to Windsor.

Tib Fester Lloyd states that the Csar and the Sultan hare coma to terms behind Sir Henry Layard's back. No treaty has been concluded, but the Forte will tako Russia's advice on all pointi.
