Mining Review of the Week.

The position of the principal mines during tne past week was much the same as during its'predecessor. The price of Alburnias has remained about the same, and the only thing new in the thine worthy of recording here is the reaching pt the Old Wbau boundary with the 70-feet level drive. During the driving cf the last few feet the sice of the reef has very much decreased both in quantity and quality, showing that the run has gone out of the drive, and if the Old Whau shareholders derive any benefit from the run, it will be from the portion of the reef below the 70 feet level. The prospects of the New Worth Devon mine have very much improved. The tributers are working on a lode seven; feet thick, and obtain picked stone from the hanging* wall portion. The Pump has ceased operations, and there seems little chance of it resuming again in a hurry, as it has been purchased by a gentleman for a private speculation, and it ig not likely he will start it tjll he sees his own way clear. The old Prince Alfred battery will goon resume work again, having been purchased by the Alburnia company, who intend erecting additional machinery. At the )ast meeting of the County Council this company applied that the Moanatairi road should be extended to the month of the Son* of Freedom travel, to th»t it in.

probable they intend carting the quartz to the battery instead of sending it down the tramway hs at present.
