DUNEDIN.
Yesterday.
Between one and two o'clock this morn* iug, Thomas Birch, ex-Mayor and chief Government Insurance Agent here, was awoke by hearing his wife's screams, and on rushing to her room he found her enveloped in ilaines. With great difficulty he succeeded'in extinguishing them, as he had no assistance in the house. He was considerably burnt about the hands, but his wife was so badly burnt that her life is despaired of.
