Yesterday.
The Government steamers Stella and Hinemoa have been supplied with 250 rations and one week's provisions for the crew. It is believed that both steamers are under orders to sail at 4 o'clock tomorrow morning, but their distination i« not made public.
It is believed Mr Vesev Stewart is about completing arrangements for the purchase of a large block of land in the Poverty Bay District from the Government, for the purpose of forming another settlement on jlfep same basis as at Katikati. W On Account of those Concerned. At the Bankruptcy ;Court yeiterday, the Chief Justice pointed out that not only, every trader but also private individuals who became bankrupt were liable to have their certificates suspended if no books had been kept.
The s.B. Hinemoa, with his Excellency 'and suite on, board, arrive,d at 6 o'clock this evening. The steamer was delayed owing to a slight accident to the machinery. A Presentation. This afternoon Mr Levin, M.H.E., on behalf of a large number of frienda, presented to Mr Knowles, accountant at the National Bank, a handsome gold locket and illuminated address on the occasion of his leaving Wellington to assume the management of the National Bank Branch at J^a'pier. Mr Green, manager of the Nationii Bank here, also presented Mr Knowles with a valuable diamond ring' from the officers of the Bank.
This day. The Destination of the Government Steamers, The Maori prisoners are being removed from here; 91 going to JDunedin in the Hinemoaand 43 by the Stella to Hokitika. A guard of 30 men of the Armed Constabulary left with the former, and 20 witli the latter. It ii said the removal will not interfere with their trial on April the oth." Both steamers left at 5 o'clock this morning.
