COUNTY COUNCIL.

We conclude our report of the proceedings at the meeting of the Thames County Council yesterday afternoon:— APOLOGIES. The Chairman apologised for the /< absence of Crs Brown and Bagnall. RATES. , . The Council decided to remit the rates ; of Mrs Billings, a poor widow. I FLUME. H. Wick wrote asking permission to take a small flume over the Ohinemuri main road near th| Matetoke bridge. He drew attention to, (he bad state of the Puko-Paeroa Road. It was decided to grant the application subject to the approval of the Engineer. TE ABOHA FEBBY. A letter was read from Mr G. S. O'Halloran asking that the Council would recoup him for certain moneys he had expended in connection with the ferry at Te Aroha, the total amount being £6 19s. He also drew attention to the unfinished state of the punt, and the necessity of repairing the road. Referred to the Engineer. NEW BOAD BETWEEN WAITEKAUBI AND MACKAYTOWN. A letter was read from E. M. Corbett urging on the Council the desirability of adopting a new route for the WaitekauriMackaytowa road. He had been over it, and " blazed " a line, and could roach for its practicability. Referred to Engineer to report on. OLD TIMBER. James McCormiek wrote offering £2 for the old timber of the Hape Creek tramway. Cr Deeble s&d the tramway '• was useful for foot passengers. Cr Green* ville spoke to the same effect. ' The offer was declined. - ' > ■ • ,'■ OWHABOA BATTEBY. Mr Thos. Manning wrote stating that he had heard that the Council intended taking up the pipes leading from the main to the Prince Alfred battery. He ther^V fore applied for 150 feet of these pipes for,:' the purpose of taking water across the'"''. Owharoa river for the purpose of supplying the Owharoa battery. It was. resolved that the • pipes be given, to Mr ' Manning for a nominal sum if the. Coun-, oil hare no use for them. >'••/;> ' ALBTTBNIA BOAD. '\'"]'..■ A letter wai read from the Alburnia G.M.Co., asking that the Moanatairi road be extended to Sons of Freedon tunnel. Referred to Bqard of Works to report. ; tapuboad; . A letter was read from Henry Carran, asking how much of his land the Council required for the Tapn road: He would not make an exorbitant demand for compensation. Referred to Engineer. SLAXTGHTEB-HOyfll LICKNBB.. James Barrett applied fdra renewal of his slaughter-house license at Paeroa. Granted. . ; PABAWAI HIGHWAY BOABD. A letter was read from the Parawai Highway District ratepayers accepting the offer of the County;Councilineon* sideration of,the district, continuing in.the County. They, howerer,' wished the Council to gire them the expenditure of the money. :*, ■ Cr Carpenter, after explaining what had been donej^ the meeting cf Parawai ratepayers, moved that the offer be?, accepted. : - •, . ; '. Cf Porter moved that the offer made to the Parawai ratepayers by a Committee af the Council be now withdrawn. TOM. TO PABAWAI.. Cr CarperwlniOTed (without previous notice) that a Jam of £100 be voted to. Parawai Board to be expended as the Board see fit. Cr Porter seconded. Carried. . ; ;•, LANDSLIP. ' It was resolved that the repairing of the landslip on Parawai road at Mr Bull's ■ property be charged to Parawai riding. THE WATBB-BACB IBON. Cr Greenville moved for a return showing the amount of water-race iron . sold by Mr Carpenter, amount of com* mission paid, etc. • Cr Deeble seconded. Carried. . Cr Greenville moved that the'iron be - moved from the yard where it now lies to the premises of the County Council, and sold by the officers of the Council, and that the necessary notice be given to ( determine the leasejof the present storage allotment. ■ Cr Deeble seconded.' Cr Carpenter moved as an amendment . that the words " officers of the Council" be struck out. He thought they had enough work to do already. The resolution was carried.' ( . enoineeb's. bepobts. A letter was read from the Union Sash and Door Co. t asking the Council to extend the Kauaeranga Valley road to tha third branch of the Tairua river. Referred to the Engineer to report at -„ next meeting. pipi block. . Mr Laycock wrote asking the Council Referred to the Bngineer.to report on. to lay off a road at the Pipi Block, Tairua. HIKUTAIA. 5 Mr Alley wrote asking the Council to lay off a road from the Ohinenturi | main road through his property to Whani gamata, and expressing his intention to I give any of his land for that purpose. Referred to the Engineer to have the work done as soon as possible. TAPU CONTBACTS. Mr McMahon's, letter, making certain charges against County officials, (pub- , lished yesterday), was referred to the*. Engineer. OHINEMUBI WOBKS. , It was decided to proceed with the works in Ohinemuri Riding authorised by the Council. This concluded the business.
