Thames Land Association.
A meeting of persons interested in procuring land in the Upper Thames for settlement was held at the Stardfice last night. Mr "McCulloug'b. occupied the chair. V
Mr Moon, read the minutes of the last meeting, after which the Chairman re* ported the progress made since the last meeting. Considerable discussion followed as to the best means to be taken, and the Chairman read clauses from the new Land Act referring to special settlements.
Mr Brodie suggested a telegram should be sent tdPthe Minister of Lands asking if the Government would assist an association formed on the Thames for the purpose of taking up land under the special settlement clauses of the new Land Act. , . The suggestion wts adopted. Mr Brodie in his remarks referred to promises made by the late John Williamson when Superintendent to have lands laid aside for Thames residents, and suggested that • the attention of the Waste Lands Board should be A»Hed to these promises. * ■** ' It was also mentioned that Mr Stephenson, who is now intended making application to tbe Board on behalf of gentlemen who petitioned the Board some two years ago for land. The attendance was numerous, and the Chairman was requested to call another meeting when a reply was received from the Government. This concluded the business. ,
