CIVILISATION v. BARBARISM.

To the Editor of the Evening Stab.)j Sib, —The Editor of Enoch in his qu(ir', tions'concerning the Kingdom of Hea«n' (No, 6) writes, " How can those who h not even know the good news entjr-. tain correct ideas of the future." Sursyl 1 sir, it would be blissful ignoranco on < on their part if they are saved from fut^° punishment. Through being ignorant'it would be cruel to inform them of it, *>d jf it kept men from such disgraceful sets as were committed at Christchurch fed Timaru it might be better for them nofto know it.'Why should the Editor^of Enoch take any trouble about peopft's future affcer death. What has the life hereafter to do with another; it concerns only himself, and it seems strange that Enoch should deem it righteous and just to get into debt tv inform ignorant con if they do not believe the Bible* is inspired, the world will come to an end, and that men have no religion because they don't believe as he does. Writing against superstition, ancj: doing his utnost to uphold superstition, according to Eioch a,U the righteous will gain by the world coming to an end. Then how is it; the world is only to come to an end »hen eyeryone is wicked? When men believed the Bible was inspired and could hare gone to heaven, the world did not come to an end, neither did the world come to an end jbefore the inspired f ord was known, ami there was as much corruption,, superstition, and wickedness before the Bible, was known as there is now. How is it so long as a few. educated people can get rich and rule others through their ignorance, when those who rwere ignorant, get the same knowledge; they are all to bo sent out of existeuce excepting. Enoch and those whoijelieve with him, (read Enoch and his appeals to free himself from debt). The .whole upheaval of society is the nevr knowledge against the old, a trialto get the world more equally balanced, without one religion overacting the other. The nian who wrote that all men were mad, whoever he was, nearly hit the mark if he alluded to religious men, for they consider it necessary to send men but of existence to uphold their faith, get themselves and relatives into debt, besides sending their friends to everlasting fire if they disagree with them.—l am; &c, P.B.P.
