Last night. The Harbour Board to-day abolished s the wharf tolls. 4 Attempted Child Murdw.
A woman named Robinson living at Pokeno, yesterday tried to dash a child's brains out by hitting it against the bedpost. The child is not expected to live. Constable Waller has taken the woman to the Asylum to-day, Her husband was in the South at the time.
A banquet was giveri'to Mr Swanson M.H.R., by tig constituents, at Newton, this evening. A. Boardman, Esq., presided. Mr Swansoja stated that his res.*sons for seceding i?from the Auckland party was the deposition of Sir George Grey, and all that remained was to struggle for place and pay, while coutrae* tors and others remained unpaid.
