Saturday Weldon, Superintendent of the A.C., and 18 constables left for Timaru yesterday afternoon to assist in quelling the riot there.

S. Jeffcoat, a settler of 30 years" standing, was found on Saddlers' Hill on Christmas eve with his brains blown out. The deceased was subject to fits, and it is not known whether his death wai accidental or happened under the influence of one of these fits, when he shot himself.
