WELLINGTON.
Last night. At a meeting of the Tramway Co. this afternoon, a resolution to wind up the company was carried unanimously. It is generally understood that the directors will purchase the other interests. At the Magistrate's Court to-day, a young woman named Walker was sentenced to one hour's imprisonment for appearing in the public streets in male attire.
A chieftainess named Caroline Tairoa, eldest sister of tho Hon. Wi Tako Ngatita, died at Te Aro pah last erening. Mr Allan, junr., for a number of years connected with the New Zealaad Times and Mail, was on Saturday presented with a yaluable collection of books on the occasion of his departure for Nelson. The cricket match between Wanganui and Wellington will be played tomorrow. Betting is in favor of Wanganui. At the Compensation Court to-day, before 11 is Honor the Chief Justice and two experts, several claims were argued, the claims being for damages for loss alleged, to have been sustained by the lowering of a certain footpath. The Court adjourned until the 2nd January to consider which was the proper mode to ascertain the amount of damage. Two barques from the north were signalled this morning. They are believed to be two colliers from Newcastle, but owing to the prevailing N.W. gale, were blown off the heads.
