Two Fires in Auckland.
A house in Williams street, Ponsonby, of five room*, was totally destroyed by fire at midnight. The owner of the house, a German named Theodore Brown, was coming out of a bedroom with a kerosene lamp in his bands, when the top portion fell upon the floor and exploded. The flames spread rapidly, and he had only time to arose his father-in-law and his wife and make their escape. The home was insured for £238. The furniniture was insured for £150 in the New Zealand, and the house for £120 in the Liverpool.
Another fire occurred to-day in a four roomed house of Coburg street, adjoining Harbutt's brush factory, and occupied and owned by Harper and wife. Both were from home at the time the fire com* menced, the roof of shingles being ignited by sparks from the factory. The owner had complained of sparks before. The house was completely gutted.
