St. Thomas (Catholic) Boys' School.
The annual examination of the pupils attending the aboTe seminary, which began on Wednesday, terminated yesterday afternoon. The pupils were subjected to a viva Vote examinationi as well as by ■written papers, the examiners being the Her. Father O'Beilly, and several members of the school committee. Yesterday there was a large attendance of parents and: friends" 6f the boys' to witness the distribution of prizes, which were handed to the winners by the rev. examiner. The following'is theorize list:—Fifth standard : Ist prize for general proficiency, Daniel Gillies; 2ad,J O'Brien; 3rd, T McEntetr.'Ajrithiiietic, D Gillies. Grammar^-# ■» O'Brien. r English literature, H Pod. Christian doctrine, A Cornell. Good conduct, TDod.F Moore.—Fourth standard: Ist prize for general proficiency, J Connelly; 2nd, J Mcllhone; 3rd H Boche. 'i Grammar; J Mcllhone. Arithmetic, M Whelan. Spelling, T Beardon. Highest marks iii oral examination, .H Bpyle.r-Third standard: Ist prize for wMneral proficiency, Denis Connelly; 2nd 'JrMcAiiley; 3rd, T Lawson; 4th, F Moran; sth, H Spinks. Arithmetic and spellling, P Wilton. Good conduct, D O'Sullifan.-—Second standard: Ist prize for general proficiency, J Buckley; 2nd} P Kaflerty; 3rd J Bafferty.—First standard : Ist prize for general proficiency, P Clarkin; 2nd, S Maguire; 3rd, G MeAuley; 4th, HFarrally.—Geometry, T McEnteer. Algebra, A Cornell. Bookkeeping, T McEnteer. _ Father O'Keilly expressed great satisfaction at the results obtained by all the pupils, which he said was in a great measure due to the great pains taken by the teachers, Messrs Carrick and Gillies. Mr Carrick, on behalf" of himself and his assistant, warmly thanked Father O'Keilly for the interest he, had taken in the school. Three cheers were then given for Father O'Beilly and the teachers, and the school broke up for the Christmas holidays. WhateTer may be said of tho relative merits of the secular and denominational systema, we must admit that St. Thomas' school is a credit to the Catholics of the Thames, and will compare favorably with other educational establishments of greater pretensions in this district.
