Examination of the Tararu School.

The examination and presentation of prizes to the scholars of this School took place to-day, there being a good attendance of visitors, taking into consideration the boisterous nature of the weather. Amongst those present we^ce the Her. S. J. Neil 1, Messrs W. L. Thorburn, B. Wolff, J. B. Steadmail and others; several ladies, among whom we noticed Mrs L. Ehrenfried, the Mayoress. The first part of the programme was conducted by Mr Grigg, the tonic sol-fa instructor, and consisted of solo and part singing by the several classes,' their excellence of time was the subject of general comment, and the greatest credit is due to Mr Grigg for the care and attention helias bestowed on his pupils. The girls' were then formed, into four classes by Lieutenant Barlow and put through a variety of ealisthenic and deportment exercises. With the exception of one or two young ladies who had not been regular attendants, the whole of the classes drilled well, and illustrated in an interesting manner the new system introduced by Mr Barlow. After the girls had been broken off, the elder boys were marched into .the schoolroom, and executed several company formations in a manner which would have been no discredit to the No. 1 Thanes Scottish. The scholastic examinations and distribution of prizes had not eventuated when our reporter was called away. The prize list will be published in pur next issae.*
