want of labor, while the unemployed are interviewing the Major to gefc Government to let tho railway reclamation aontract as day labor. At the Girls' High School, the Mayor, Mr Peacock, presented tho prizes^ Captain Lowrio, pilot at Knipara, has been suspended by Government. A boatman named Murray, employed as boatman attached to tho ELaipara station, was drowned alongside the brigantine Nightingale. The man was not sober at tho time. When he fell one of the boatmen caught hold of his legs, and held on for nearly a minute, but was forced to let go, and tho unfortunate man was never seeu again. He was unmarried. At the monster meeting of unemployed held to-night 150 were present, principally Dempsey's men. J. Bratne presided. .Resolutions were passed urging Government to go on with the Newmarket contract, to sublet the Railway Reclamation pending the settlement of the dispute with the contractor, and the enforcement of time penalties on Government contracts, also resolutions against assisted immieration and working excavations with falls cf more than 12 feet. The meeting was orderly.
