Tk© Libel Case.—Earle v. „ Dohexty. Earle was examined at great length. He denied having taken any indecent liberties with MissTownsend, but admitted she kissed him once while he was lying on the sofa with the gout. He stated no part of her evidence was true, and hii wife had never found fault with him. He denied having done any harm to Doherty by word, thought or deed, and had nothing to do with his discbarge from the school. The Jury retired at 5 30, and came in at 8.15 with a verdict of guilty on all the counts. Doherty addressed the Court for nearly an hour. He was sentenced to 9 months' imprisonment in Pieton gaol with hard labor. The prisoner was considerably affected, and was removed in custody.
