This day. Arrival of the City of Hew York. Arrived: City of New York from Sydney with the outward Francisco mails. A Lively Meeting:. There is a good deal of gossip over an assault caie that is expected to come on at the Police Conrt on Thursday. At a meeting of Lewis Bros*. creditors, Howard, one of the creditors, impugned the ruling of Shera, soft goods warehouseman, who was in the chair, and said he was not fit to preside. Shera retaliated with one straight from- the shoulder, hitting Howard under the ear, raising a lump. Howard is a very tall stout man ; Shera is a little man. They began clawing at each other, when other creditors separated them. Next day, at an adjourned meeting, Howard went up and struck Shera on the head. He was about to retaliate, when friends pulled tb«m back. Shera now has commenced Police Court proceedings for an assault, and a crosß action 19 entered by Howard. James Bout, of Onehuuga, while riding a young horse was thrown. He fell heavily, causing concussion of the brain. He is expected to recover. At the Police Court today, a woman was charged with petty larceny. Her husband, it is said, was done throagh extreme poverty, as he was working for Dempsey on the reclamation, and could get no money.
