The whole of the allotment to be filled in within fire years from January Ist, 1880. —A committee was appointed to meet the committee of the Borougb Council re rates and charges. A vote of thanks was accorded to the Mayor for his exertions for tho board at Wellington. The Harbour Master was granted the serrice of two men for two days, for the purpose of overhauling the buoys. Doric*, and Jno. Brown. The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed, and a number of small accounts passed for payment, Mr Bagnull and Mr Brown were authorised to gather what information they could as to the value and position of the Te Aroha Block, in order that when the gentlemen deputed by Government to select the endowment commenced to do so the Board would be in a better position to judge of the manner in which it was being done. Telegrams were also ordered to be sent lo Sir George Grey, Mr Shcehan, Mr Speight and Mr Brodie, urging on them the importance of getting aid from Government, in order that the school may be at once started. The Chairman received aheurty vole of thanks for his exert ioua on behalf of the Board during his late visit to Wellington.
Wu would aßain remind our readers of the concert in aid of the funds of the Convents' Schools to take place at the Wilioughby street School-house this morning.
Ix addition to the £7000 to be distributed amongst the Alburnia shareholders the directors haro caused lo be added to the reserve fund a sum of £700. The reserve fund now stands at £'1,700.
We notice by our .English Megrams during the last few days thut the price of wool is advancing. la to day's telegrams it will be secu thai Mr Bueklaud's Auckland wool sales were very successful, an advance of Id per Ib. being obtained. This is very welcome news as it is certain to do something toward removing the preseut commercial depression und^r which the colony it laboring. Wool is becoming one of the staple articles of export ot" the colony and any alteration in the ruling prices is bouud to, in some degree, affect the commercial relations of the colony.
We are requested by the treasurer of the Grabatnstown Volunteer Fire Brigade (VTr T. Eawdon) to acltnowledgo the receipt of a ch<que for £3 3s towards the funds of the Brigade from Jlesirs Osborne Bros. The smartness in turning out, and the general efficioncy of the Brigade is assigned as the reason for the donation.

To-day we "were shewn a copy of the .programme for the Tauvaugti Jockey Club Meeltng to be 1-eld at the end of January. The total money to be given is £265, and the lists of events includes a two mile handicap of £75, and two hurdloraces of £50 each. These sums are very creditable to a small ploce like Tauranga, and wo hope the publication of th> paragraph will have an cmuhitory tfloet on Thames people, and induce them to snbscribo liberally for the Thames Annual Kuces. We notice the name of our fellow townsman, Col. Ffnscr.us one of the handicappers, We wish our Tauranga neighbours every success, and trust some of our horsos will compete at their race meetIn another column we fiiblish a report of the proceedings at a meeting of persons interested in the settlement of the Upper Thames held last evening. We believe that if an Association is formed on the basis proposed gopd practical results will follow. Mr Morgan-Morris, one 6f Yesey Stewart's settlers, was present it the meeting, and stated that he was delegated by a number of small farmers in the old country to endeavour to get a block of land for them to settle on. We consider Iho idea of a mixed special settlement ot " new chums " and older colonists a very good one, as it would be of mutual adtautage to all concerned—the new arrivals beneliting by the colonial experience of the section of the community, and the Colonials by their neighbors skill as Bgriculturists.
