In these colonies those excesses which we have indulged in " hot youth " tell upon us with fearful interest. Our regrets aro useless, our repinings futile. The sole idea should be the chances ■we possess of remedying the' ills we already have, for combatting the effects likely to result. Bide it as he muy, put on as good an exterior as he can, still is the victim conscious that he is a living lie, and that soouer or later his vices will discover him to the world. Our Faith, our obligations to society at large, the welfare of our future offspring, and the duty, we owo to ourselves forbids procrastination, and points out to us, not to wait till the ravages break out in our constitutions. Before negotiating with a merchant, before engnging with a confidential clerk; before employing a barrister, a careful man intakes enquiries as their standing, their length of occupancy or residence; and, in the case of a legal adviser, both as to hie logal qualifications and as to his capabilities of transuding the individual business he consults him upon. Strange to say, however, in the selection of a medical inun, the sufferer frequently omits these neeeesary precautions and without regard to the fitness, qualification, experience and ability for the particular ailment requiring treatment, lie consults the nearest man, whose experience and practice, perhaps, lies in quite an opposite direction. la it astonishing that so many are driven mad, are ruined in health, and are bankrupt in spirits, hope and money ? Have I not for years pointed out to them that I, Dr L. L. Smith, am the only ieg&lly qualified medical man advertising in the Colonies I Have I not also prosecuted, at my own expense, these veiy quacks, and exposed tho various nostrums they are selling,—such as Phasphodvno Essence of Life, &a. —and had them analysed and found them to consist of "Burnt Sugar and fluvoring matter," and tho ct-rfifioatea I have rBOTBD to bo all forgeries. Ibis for this reason that I step out of the othios of the profession and advertise, to give thote who require tbo services of my branch an opportuuity of knowing they con consult a legally qualified man, and one, moreover, who has made this his especial study. Dr L. L. Smith is tbe only legally qualified medical man advertising, and he has been in Melbourne 24 years, in full practice en NERVOUS DISEASES LOSS OF POWER AND DEBILITY BYPHILITIC AFFECTIONS WANT OF CONDITION GOUT AND RHKUMATISM.
