Christmas Examination.
LADIES' SELECT CONVENT SCHOOL.
The annual examination of the young ladies attending this seminary took place this afternoon in the presence of a number of ladiei and gentlemen, the parents and friends of the scholars.
The programme commenced by a piece of music performed on two pianos and a harmonium which had a very fine effect, Miss MeTlhone playing on the harmonium, Misses Coney,Ensor, Gibbons, and Bagnall on the pianos. Afterwards followed the glee " O'er the meadowi o'er the mountains " by Mil*. Coney and Miss Mcllhone, and then an iddrr ss by Miss Burke. The first class then read rery creditably, and after subjected themselves to a Terj severe and lengthy examination in spelling, geography and history. The knowledge of English history shown by these young ladies was surprising, and their knowledge of geography wa3 most extensive. Several pieces of music intervened, and then the other classes were examined. The programme was a very lengthy one, and the children displayed an amount of culture very creditable to tho kind ladies who eoi&sict tho school.
