Christmas Examination.

Examination of the Infants' and St

Joseph's Catholic Schools

The season of School Fxaminatious is again upon us, the groat period of the year among the juvenile portion of our population. The first of these examinations took place to day at the Willoughby street school-room, the schools examined being two of the junior scholastic institutions conducted by the good Sisters of Mercy. Father O'Beilly presided and we were pleased to note the presence of the Rev. Father Golden of Auckland, and a large number of the parents and friends of the scholars, who appeared to take a lively interest in the proceedings. A well arranged programme of singing and recitations, interspersed with examinations of Lite different einsses on various subjects, vas gone through, and (he proficiency of the children in their studios was exceedingly well demonstrated. After the items on the programme had been exhausted the distribution of prizes took place. (We hare not space for the prize list, but will probably publish it to-morrow.) Afler the children had received their rewards of merit, Fathers O'lteilly and Golden delivered short addresses. Both of the rev. gentlemen expressed the extreme gratification at being present on such an interesting occasion. After singing the national anthem, the proceedings terminated. Before concluding this notice we feel com polled to refer to some articles of ne die work exhibited by several of the scholars, all of which would have been exceedingly creditable to children of older growth. Misses L. Gleeson, Annie Brown, Ludo Koofoed, Marj Williams, K. McConnachie, and Theresa Pearce showed antimacassars, Lizzie Spinks, and K. Tooker knitted wool work, and Jane Gnrctty, Kelly Schofield, and Hetty Watts mats, all being well done. The examination must have been exceedingly gratifying to the parents of the scholars.
