TIMARU.

Last night.

The enquiry into the loss of the John Watson is now being held. The evidence shows that her inability to clear the roadstead was her cargo being out of trim, and the vessel being heavy astern. Very heavy rain fell from Sunday to thin morning all over the district, causing floods in the river Ontario. A portion of the railway lino was washed away, causing the engine and several trucks of the early goods train to run off and capsize. Nobody was hurt, and the line will be right to-morrow. The ordinary trains were considerably delayed.
