MOANATAIRI.

During last week operation! were much retarded by the submerging of the, floor of the tunnel. Men are now employed enlarging the box drains. Notwithstanding that the battery was only going 10 days in last fortnight the yield was an exceedingly good one. ; The following is the mine manager's weekly report:—•" South cross-cut tunnel level—-Duriug the past week a large reef was intersected dipping north with an underlie of 1J in 1. Ut has been cut into 2£ feet, and the quarts is crystallised with dark patches. It con* tains a large proportion of carbonate of lime, bat little mineral of any tort. I think this is one ot the Golden Age reeft, as the dip and nature of the stone corresponds. Upon striking this reef a large body of water was tapped in the hanging wall or west side, flooding the-tunnel from end to end eight iuches deep. The foot-boards were floated up and everything driven before the current causing a suspension of all trucking. The water ( is now draining off to a considerable extent, though still covering the rails. We are now taking out the old boxes and enlarging the drains so as to carry off the water, as we are putting in shoots through t|>e Long Drive were the reef is worked out. Wo shall complete the drainage to the winding shaft by Tuesday, when winding will be resumed. It will require all the coming week to put the drain in order right through, and nothing will be done at the face until this is completed. During the fortnight 270 tons quftftfc have been crushed, including 2cwt of picked stone, yielding 3160z5. Battery has been stopped since Tuesday owing to the suspension of trucking. In drives and stopes but little work has been done since tapped the water.—l am, .Ac., iiojrr. Comke.
