LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
Wellington, Last night.
In the Council to-day, Mr Whitakcr stated in discussion on a molionre the harbor defences, that the Ministry had been written to by Col. Scratchley, who would visit the colony in January. After he had inspected the harbors and reported, the Government would be enabled lo 1 state their views on the subject. BILLS. The New River Pilot Station Reserve Bill was read a third time and passed. The Native Expenditure Investigation Committee were given an extension of time, till the 3rd December, to bring up their report. The greater part of the afternoon was spent in debating the Qualification of Electors Bill, and when the Council rose at 5, the Hons. Whitaker, Sir F. D. Bell, Coll Wbitmore, Buckley, Frasnr, Grace, Pollen, Johnson, iSgatata, Reynolds, Tairoa, Watcrhouse, Wilson, F. Wood had spoken all very shortly and generally in favour of the Bill. The arguments used however on either side were chiefly a repetition of those brought forward in the Lower House. At five the j Council adjoarned till 7.30.
