Friday. The Dunodin local pr.ss arodissatisfied with the tariff proposals. They urge Government to Carefully consider the propriety of freeing imported condensed milk and fruits.
The Star consider* the proposals neither just nor expedient, as they will encourago largo official expenditure, and a smuggling scheme, and on the whole are not likely to prove successful as a means of raising the revenue, though it will raise the price of living all round. It thinks the tea and sugar duties should hare been reimposed, and a moderate duty placed on colonial beer. The Herald considers the property tax will fall all round, and free from class leßislatioh, ' % A petition is being signed against the duty on tobacco.
