THE ORPHANAGE.
(To the Editor of tho Krcniug Star.) g IB> —I plho on Monday last visited 010 Knuaeranga Valley, although I was not a member of the party mentioned by " Jtachel," nor am I awnro who tho larly is, writing nadov such signature. I, too, saw the Orplisnajjo inmates, and think, with " Uachel," the munugement of the children by tho Matron and Master, lacked kindness in nn especial degree ; it might have been only mannerisiri, if so, it should be avoided, for the constant scolding of children docs not beget love on their part in return, whereas love is a far better attribute than fear for children to feel towards those in authority over thorn. With respect to the baby, undoubtedly there lacked that interest if not care which all ladies feel towards such helpless little ones. I prefer the management of the Auckland Institution, but tbe situation aud grounds of the Thames Home.—l am, &c, An Auckland Lady Visitor.
