The New Mines. Bill, as reported by Committee, provides that if it is proved lhat £1500 has been expended in prospeeling during the previous year, a certificate of protection will be granted for one year on the payment of £5. A renewal may be granted if £500 has been expended during protection. If £6000 has been spent, protection will be for 2 years. Clauses Have been added, granting protection to prospectors on Crown Lands outside mining districts. Some discussion is likely to take place in the House.
The North Island Railways show a grpit' JBprovemeht on the last quarter. optupaiSm with the corresponding quarter; net receipts are £2953, and the increase in passengers 19,141.
All the North lines show 1.89 per cent, improvement in their net revenue on 1878.
