WELLINGTON.
This day,
At the If.M. Court this morning, Mr Lingard, comedian, sued E. T. Gillon to recover certain fees paid us royalty two years ago. Lingard said he paid the ices uudcr protest at the time, as he tras
anxious to leave for America. Ho alleged Hogkins was the proper person for GiUon to have npplied to, Lingard being merely under engagement to him. Considerable evidence was taken. The Magistrate reserved derision till Monday. A deputation of Foxton residents waited on Mr Oliver to-day, to urge the Government to begin the West Coast railway at the Foxton end; and presented a petition from the residents of Foxton and Otaki, with the same object, pointing out that the railway would provide work for the unemployed, and open up a largo extent of country.
Mr Oliver agreed with the views of the deputation, and Baid Government intended to bring in a Village Settlements Bill. However, the financial position of the country was such that many works that were considered necessary could not be proceeded with now, but would be as soon as the financial position warranted it.
