There was heavy rain all the morning, the weather being cold and miserable, and the attendance small.

Duchess "went" up to the leader near the opposite stand, and Tetnpleton, pulling hard, allowed the mare to come up. -Betrayer coming up hai'd, Templetou a^ain assumed "the~lead lit "tlie~bTici£ of the ~ cdttf s~b.~ Jn~ turning into the straight Betrayer assumed the second place,- Tcmpleton leading by a length. Betrayer here made his effort, and fell back beaten. Grnnd Duchess spurtfd passed Betrayer, then eased off. Templeton coming, in an easy winner by three lengths. Betrayer pulled off at the distance. Time : 3mins. Ssecs. Metropolitan Handicap. Foul Play ... ... ... 1 .Hornby ... 2 Libeller .... ... ... 3
Laertes, York, Soukar, and Atlantic started. After three attempts the lot got away well together, Libeller leading, followed by Laertes, Hornby, and Foul Play, Libeller making the running. At the. second turn York, pulling hard, ran up to the third horse. Opposite the Stand, Atlantic, Libeller and Hornby were all together, Foul Play fourth, and coming up the stright Hornby led, Foul Play coming up from the outside, his rider sitting still. At the distance, Foul Play raced up to Hornby's quarters, and after an exciting race forged ahead a few yards from the post, winning by a short half length, Libeller being a good third. Time : 2ruins 45secs.
Publican's Steeplechase Handicap. Little John 1 TeWhotu 2 Agent... 3 Silverstream and Eobin Hood also started. Robin Hood ran off at the first jump, but got over on the second attempt. iSilverstream and Little John cleared the fence, the former leading, the Agent and Te Whetu next. At the bottom of the course the leaders dosed up together. At the south fence Silrerstrcara gavo Gifiord a bad fall, but was quickly rouionuted. Little John then cleared away several lengths in the lead, 'Te Whetu coming into second place. At the last jump, Little John still led, Te Whetu and Agent whipping. Little John cleared the Stand hurdle in Iho lead, Te Whetu riding hard, hut failed to catch the leader, who won a good race by two leugths. Agent pulled off at the hurdle.
Selling JiACE. Sinking Fund 1 Billingsgate ... ... . 2 OaDifc ]. 3 Four others started. Billingsgate led round the first turn aud into the straight, with Sinking Fund on his quarter. At the distance, Sinking Fund came up with a rush, both riders whipping. A few yards from the post. Sinking Fund foiled ahead, winning by a bare length. Time : lmin. 22wsecs. CoNSOIATIOtf IIACS.York ... 1 Laertes ... ... ... g Grand Duchess 3 Four others started. It was a grand race from the distance between the two first. Time: Iminosecs.
