Wellington, Last night. In tho Council to day a large amount of business was cleared,, but oi:ly a smwll portion was of interest. OLD AND DECREPIT MAOBIES. Answering Wi Tairoa, tho Attorney - Geiieral said Government had made ample provision for the old and decrepit Maories in the South Island. COUNTY 01? TI3IAHU. There was a long discussion on the motion by Mr Aciaiid that the new County of Timarii should not be constituted. The general opinion whs against the sub division of counties as likely to create local ill-feeling,, and increase tho expense of local government. The debate was adjourned till Tuesday on the motion of Mr Whitaker. J.OCAL BILLS.
For the purpose of expediting the work of local bills, three separate committees were formed for their considera; tion, nnd standing orders on subject were suspended for the remaiuder of the session. -§ WELLINGTON ItAITAVAY STATION. Replying to Mr Buckley, tho AltorneyGenerai said'the new lailvray station foi Wellington would bo started almost immediately. HARBOR DEFENCE* Col. Whitmore moved that Government should state their intentions with regard to harbor defence, and the proposed visit of Col. Scratchley. The debute was adjourned till Taesday. • BILLS PASSED. The Primitive Methodist Temporal Affairs Bill, Election Validation Bill, and District Law Society Amendment Bill were passed. OTHER BILLS. The Ashburton Water Bill was read a first time. Several Bills were considered in Committee, and a considerable time spent in important discussions. The Council rose.
