The Attempt to stick up a Bank in Victoria.

The following are the particulars of the attempted sticking-up of the Bank. The only occupants of the Bank of Australasia at Moe are Mr Munro, the manuger, and his wife. At 9JO: on Wednesday night, Mr Munroj henrd a tap at the door ; all places of business been closed at that time, he went to the door, partly opened it, and found himself confronted bv^ two men who endeavoured to push iiim. Mr Muuro grappled the foremost one, and, after a short struggle, threw him and fell, on him, calling for assistance. His wife went to alarm the neighbours. The police station was a quarter of a mile distant, and only one constable was in the township. While struggling with the niati, Munro saw the gleam of a revolver, seized it, and it snapped as though-it mis-fired. Then the second man, who had up to this time been passive, hit Munro-^bn the head and- compelled him.to release the other man. Both then seemed to relinquish their intention of robbing the bank, clambered over the fence, and disappeared. A telegram was immediately, sent to Morwell and Sales, autl a special Irani started with constables; The tracks of the robbers were traced to Trafalgar, where the culprits were arrested at the railway station. They carried loaded revolvers, and had a carpet bag; it contained no provisions. The prisoners are brothers, aged twenty-three and twentyone, Itobert and James Shanks. They have practically admitted that they are the men who went into the bank.
